Helen says "I have worked with both children and adults with learning, physical and communication difficulties for the last 18 years and am currently working with Autistic young adults in Lindfield, West Sussex. I have been at Hollyrood for nearly four years now and although this can be challenging I enjoy it very much. Although I have been working in care for a long time the only fundraising I have done before is dressing up as a clown for Comic Relief (see pic below). I thought it woud be an exciting challenge to trek in Peru on behalf of the National Autistic Society."
"I have worked for two of the Disabilities Trust homes.
Ernest Kleinwort Court, Burgess Hill, West Sussex and
Hollyrood, Lindfield, Nr Haywards Heath, West Sussex

"I am proficient in Makaton which is a unique language programme offering a multi modal
approach using signs, symbols and speech for the teaching of communication, language and literacy skills. Makaton was devised for children and adults with a variety of communication and learning disabilities. I have learnt the 8 stages of Makaton. I have just done a tutor training course and hope to become licenced as a Regional Tutor in the near future."
See the Makaton website for more information.

This route includes very different terrain from high desert plateau to tropical Andean rainforest."
